After 50 years, the Berrydale Volunteer Fire Department in Jay is planning for a new building.

The current building utilized by the fire department was built by the original volunteer firefighters, but renovations have gotten expensive, and plans are in place to demolish the current structure and build a new one.

Governor Ron DeSantis awarded workforce development and infrastructure improvements funds through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund (JGGF) and the Defense Infrastructure Grant (DIG). Awards were made to Pensacola State College, the city of DeFuniak Springs, Santa Rosa County, and Jackson County for projects that will support the aviation and aerospace industry, the military and defense industry, and increase access to workforce housing.

Santa Rosa County School District students have been waiting on their high school transcripts to send to colleges, but they aren’t alone. Other Florida school districts have had to wait too, as the slowed process this year is not immune to Santa Rosa County.
