Wellness Weekend: What does the Bible say about mental health?
Joel Beck, a youth pastor at West Florida Baptist Church in Milton, said mental health is one of the major challenges facing area residents, along with hunger and drugs. This Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, the church will host a Wellness Weekend with Inspire Counseling Ministry. The topic? “Find Hope in the Scriptures: Overcoming Burnout, Depression, and Anxiety Through Clinically Informed, Spiritual-Applied Wisdom.”

Sheriff: Cosse’s Place owner sold stolen John Deere equipment
The owner of a popular Milton restaurant found himself behind bars after being arrested for allegedly selling stolen John Deere equipment in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
Matas “Mike” Bernard Cosse, 52, who owns Cosse’s Place (5365 Stewart St.), is charged with six counts of public order crimes, six counts of forgery, five counts of dealing in stolen property, one count of fraud or swindle and one count of larceny.

Pace High looks to rename building in honor of longtime secretary
On Dec. 30, 2022, Pace High School unexpectedly lost a valuable long-time staff member and former student. Bridget Hall Head was a member of the first graduating class at Pace High School and an employee at the school for 24 years. Over the last two decades, she served as the principal’s secretary.
Now the principal, Stephen Shell wants to honor her in a permanent way. On March 7, he attended the Santa Rosa County School Board meeting to request a building, currently known as Freedom Hall, be named for Head.

No reply: Grantors reviewing Milton plea to keep funding
The City of Milton had until March 1 to satisfy conditions set by two federal agencies that have committed almost $9 million to the city’s wastewater treatment project.
It met the deadline but whether it met the agencies’ requirements is questionable.
Now, the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation and the U.S. Economic Development Administration must decide whether to again extend the deadline to spend grant funds or terminate the grants.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office recently announced the formation of a new nonprofit organization called the ‘Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Star Foundation,’ which will work to support the agency and charitable organizations throughout the county and first responder communities.

Blackwater Trail champion hopes anniversary sparks revival
The 25th anniversary of the Blackwater Heritage State Trail in February was bittersweet for Richard Collins. In 1996, the Pace man earned recognition as a National Conservation Hero for helping create the trail.
