The Patriots trailed by only three, and then with the final seconds winding down on the clock, the Bulldogs got a 3-pointer off that swayed the momentum in the other direction.

But off that deflected save, Sydney Crow is there to punch the ball into the back of the net and trim the Dolphin lead to 3-2.

The fog began to slowly descend upon the pitch at Hurley Manning Field last Tuesday night. It was like a thick blanket where it was almost impossible to see anything. That didn’t stop the Milton Panthers and the Pensacola High Tigers from squaring off in another regular-season matchup.

Before the season began first-year Pace head coach Richard Carroll worked out a schedule that would challenge his team. He had good reason to take that approach after the team showed signs of promise during a 6-8-1 season in 2021. Eight starters were expected to be back and a total of 11 seniors were set to be on the roster.

Nearly a month into the season Milton girls weightlifting head coach Raymond Busby likes what he has seen from his team. The Panthers enjoyed their latest dose of success last Monday in a dual meet with Washington, edging the Wildcats 48-40 in the Olympic portion of the meet and winning 50-39 in the traditional portion.

Yes, the Jay Royals have a young girls basketball team. There is only one junior and one senior on the roster. And yet, they’ve managed to get off to a strong start, winning their first three games, including a 55-37 victory over Catholic last Monday night in Pensacola.

Jay’s boys basketball team took a huge step forward last year. The Royals did lose in the district final but they were able to win a regional tourney game to help punctuate their 18-win campaign. Now, with a new season on the horizon, Jay is ready to do more.
