Pace battles Crestview tough in district basketball tourney
Pace’s boys basketball team didn’t go down without a fight in its District 1-6A tournament game Monday night.
Up against the second-seeded Crestview Bulldogs, the Patriots closed within five going into the final quarter before falling 55-40 as their season came to an end.

Milton Panthers roll in district tournament opener
Treymar Jones tossed up a 3-pointer in the third quarter of a District 1-6A quarterfinal against Navarre and turned away as he fired up the shot in the corner, feeling confident the ball was dropping in.
It did indeed swish through the net, the student section erupting in cheers, on a night when the Milton Panthers dominated the Raiders 71-32 as their bid for a championship repeat got underway.

Santa Rosa County represents well at regional weightlifting meets
Santa Rosa County represented well at FHSAA regional girls weightlifting meets on Saturday.
Nine lifters won their respective weight classes in traditional at the Region 1-3A meet in Flagler Palm Coast while six won titles in Olympic. The county also had a lifter take first in the Region 1-1A meet in Wewahitchka.

Pace’s girls soccer team has been tested all year, and the semifinal round of the District 1-6A tournament at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola was no exception to that.
The Patriots were up against top-seeded Niceville, a traditional power, but didn’t back down from start to finish in a 3-1 loss that ended their season last Tuesday night.

Girls tournaments will run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday while the boys tournaments will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Central boys basketball team battles Baker tough in district loss
The final score said Baker 60, Central 40, but it doesn’t indicate how close of a game it truly was most of the night against the district frontrunner Gators.
The Jaguars were within six at the half and only down four at one point early in the third before Baker grabbed the momentum and didn’t look back in a win Monday night.

Central’s girls basketball team wasn’t about to let an opportunity for a district win at home slip away Monday night.
Though Baker cut the Jaguars’ lead to eight a couple of times in the third quarter, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities, Central responded and took care of business.

Jay’s Brady Godwin talks baseball and future at college level
Brady Godwin was on the mound last May when Jay closed the deal on its first state baseball championship since 1970. The Royals defeated Bozeman 6-3 for the crown at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers.
Now his senior season with the Royals is ahead and his college commitment is already squared away as he signed with Pensacola State in November.

After time expired on a 2-0 win over Pace in a District 1-6A boys soccer tournament quarterfinal, the Milton Panthers took a few moments to pose for a photo near the scoreboard.
