Milton had a season to remember in boys basketball this year, winning a district title and playing in the 6A regional tournament.

That success did not go unnoticed as the Panthers had a player and coach earn Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 1-6A  honors.

The University of West Florida baseball team is ranked ninth in the nation in the NCBWA Division II poll.

A few teams in the area are still undefeated, including Pace’s softball team and Central’s baseball team. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from the week.

This time next year, Jayden Heavener and Shelby McKenzie will be playing major college softball.

Heavener is headed to LSU and McKenzie is bound for Florida State.

Milton’s baseball team gave itself a chance to beat Tate Wednesday night. Ultimately, the Panthers fell 3-2 in a tightly contested game against one of the best teams in the area.

Afterwards, head coach Keith Little couldn’t say enough about his team’s effort.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Milton’s softball team still had an opportunity to steal a big win against District 1-6A opponent Tate Wednesday night.

Milton’s girls lacrosse team ran onto the field to celebrate as soon as the final seconds ticked off the clock Tuesday night at Bennett C Russell Stadium.

The Panthers had just notched their third win of the season, beating Navarre 9-5 on the road, and first-year head coach James Turk called the performance the best of the season.

There is only one court for now and no home games are on tap for Pace in its first season of beach volleyball.

What there is no shortage of, however, is excitement for the sport, something impossible to not take notice of during a practice after school.

Payton Kanis used to be a gymnast.

And then an injury changed her course as an athlete.

Keith Little is in his second season at the helm of Milton’s baseball team. He’s optimistic things will be better off than they were last season when the Panthers managed only nine wins.

“I like this group. They work hard and we’re trying to do some things different on and off the field. We want them to be a close unit,” Little said.
