Why must we grow up?
A few nights ago, I was up late, sitting on the couch, watching TV.
I was trying to take my mind off the stresses of the world at a too-late hour, well beyond the time I should’ve been in bed.

We have a football all-star game and a basketball all-star game. We also have all-star games for soccer, baseball and softball. Those are the typical sports you’d expect to have a game for simply because they are the high-profile ones in this area.

For God’s Sake: Who is this about?
The Book of Acts describes an encounter between Phillip, a newly minted deacon, and an Ethiopian court official, who was sitting in a chariot reading Isaiah 53. The Spirit of God directed Phillip to ask him if he understood what he was reading. “How can I, unless someone guides me? About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or someone else?” Phillip told him from the Scriptures the good news about Christ Jesus, and that man put his faith in Christ.

“We the People” have real ongoing political issues!
We currently have a choice for our next presidential election between a criminal & apparently an extremely aged incumbent president. How did we ever allow this great nation of ours get to this point? On the national level it appears to me my father was correct when he said, “Do you know what the first job is for a politician? I thoughtfully considered numerous options. He replied, “To get re-elected!” I’m 67 & that was passed on to me at least 40 years ago. My father was correct! More Baby Boomer ramblings in the works…

Should there be an age limit for presidential candidates?
In the Lion King, there’s a memorable scene where Mufasa, king of the Pride Lands, stands with his son, Simba, overlooking Pride Rock. Speaking of the future, Mufasa explains that at some point, his time in the circle of life will end, and it will be Simba’s time to rule.

Someone voiced their frustration the other day over the time of year the spring state championships are played for baseball and softball.
I get it. At least one of them takes place during a week set aside for graduations in this area. This year, it was softball.

Growth, growth and more growth
Development in Santa Rosa County is certainly a hot-button issue, and I understand why.
Once a quaint county where you could take Highway 90 for miles without running into a stop light – or so I’ve been told – there are now new homes, restaurants and stores popping up all over the place.

For God’s Sake: Tests and trials
I did something last week that I had not done in decades – I tested a 9-volt battery by touching its posts to my tongue. Have you ever done that? My friends and I used to do it for kicks when we were kids. The unpleasant tingling sensation I felt told me that the battery was still good. Afterward, with a brain that may have just received a 9-volt kick start, I pondered that age-old question, “Why?”

No, America isn’t perfect, but look how far we’ve come in 248 years
Election years are always a very polarizing time in the United States. In today’s social media focused world, “unfollowing” a long-time friend because of their political views, beliefs or opinions is as easy as the click of a button.
