Santa Rosa County commissioners work with the 2026 county budget
The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners reviewed the county’s current funds and revenue at their draft budget meeting on June 23. The board weighed opportunities to limit current construction projects taking place within the county and pull funding to supplement other parts of the budget. The balanced budget must be delivered by July 15, with the final budget hearing in September.

Skaters whip by, helmets latched tightly, skates at the perfect angle, leaving viewers in their dust and producing a strong gust of wind as they zip by. Over the din of team chatter and skates sliding against the rink, you can hear Dave Weber calling the next group of skaters to prepare.

Florida State Archives want your disaster recovery photos
Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd is calling on the public to help preserve history.
Byrd recently announced the State Archives of Florida is seeking photographs for its newest photographic collection, “Weather, Disaster and Recovery.” Photos associated with this collection will include hurricane damage, historic floods and recovery and cleanup efforts.

SRC Animal Services using innovative technology to help reunite lost pets with families
Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is joining forces with Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization working to lead and inspire change for pets – and animal welfare organizations across the country, on a shared mission to help reunite lost pets with their families should they ever go missing, through Petco Love Lost. Sadly, according to industry statistics, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime.

New Florida law increases course hour requirement for teens learning to drive
A bill recently signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis will require teenagers earning their learner’s permit to complete a six-hour driver’s safety course, in addition to a driving rules knowledge test.
The current safety course, known as Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education, is four hours in length.

Pace Pharmacy owners, daughter arrested
Pace Pharmacy owners Stephen and Monique Burklow, as well as their daughter Laikyn Burklow, were arrested for illegal drug possession on June 23. Monique and Stephen Burklow were previously arrested in May on racketeering and drug charges. Santa Rosa County Animal Services to participate in Petco Love Florida MEGA Pet Adoption Event
Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proudly joining forces with Petco Love, a national non-profit working to lead and inspire change for animals, and animal welfare groups across the state of Florida on a shared mission to find homes for 2,000 dogs and cats in shelters. The Petco Love Florida MEGA Pet Adoption Event will take place June 27-29 in Petco pet care centers and local animal shelters.

Milton man arrested for kidnapping and battery by strangulation
On June 14 Milton resident Rickey Petitt was arrested on charges of False imprisonment and Battery.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service on June 4 reporting an alleged kidnapping/false imprisonment that took place in their jurisdiction.

His walking testimony
Navarre Beach is often thought of as a vacation destination, somewhere to put your feet up after a long journey. For Kyndal Ray Edwards, that journey has been longer than most.
Edwards, known for his “The Walking Testimony” social media account, has been traveling the United States on foot since 2022, covering more than 8,200 miles. Multiple coastlines, mountain ranges, deserts, highways, backroads and 20 pairs of shoes later, he arrived in Navarre June 18, 2025.
