Fix you right up: remembering Dr. Rufus Thames

“That oughta fix you right up!”

These were the words of long-time Milton resident Dr. Rufus Thames at the conclusion of every appointment or house call he had. According to his wife, Gale, these words were his favorite expression. Thames, who sadly passed away in 1990, was a well-loved doctor in the community for several decades. His work spanned generations of residents in Milton with impacts still felt by people today.

Pace man arrested for homicide in fentanyl-related 2023 death

A Pace man was booked into Santa Rosa County Jail Wednesday, July 9, for his involvement in a drug-related death.

Jimmy Robinson, 28, is charged with homicide. According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation across multiple years found Robinson responsible for the overdose death of a person in 2023.

Pace High NJROTC receives prestigious award

Pace High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program was named the Most Outstanding Unit in the Nation June 30 by the Naval Service Training Command. The award is the highest honor the NSTC presents, and consideration included over 23 regions and 600 programs nationwide. The program also received the award in 2019 and 2021.

NAS Whiting Field names new executive officer

Navy Commander Stephanie Biehle knew from a young age that she wanted to fly.

At five years old, she told her father this, and he directed her to the Naval Academy. Today, Biehle is the new Executive Officer of Naval Air Station Whiting Field, responsible for overseeing the command’s daily operations and performance after graduating from the Naval Academy in 2006 and holding crucial positions during her nearly 20 years with the Navy.
