The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an “above-normal” hurricane season. On May 23, NOAA announced they are forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total storms (winds of 39 mph or higher) with eight to 13 becoming hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher). Additionally, the organization says four to seven of those hurricanes could be classified as “major,” meaning category 3, 4 or 5 (with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Santa Rosa County native Amanda Cook will soon be playing on the biggest stage of her life.

Cook announced recently that her band, aptly named the Amanda Cook Band, will be performing at the Grand Ole Opry on July 7.

A 31 year old Milton woman was killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Wednesday morning. Florida Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at mile marker 29 westbound. The vehicle ran off the road and overturned.

From May 1 through the end of July, Santa Rosa County small business owners will have the opportunity to upgrade their storefronts thanks to matching grants from the county.

After having been put on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Santa Rosa Improvement Vitalization Enterprise (StRIVE) grant program is being revived for summer 2024. Businesses applying for the grant are eligible for funds up to $10,000.

The city of Milton is getting closer to purchasing body worn cameras for its police department.

The council heard about quotes for body worn cameras during their Thursday, May 17 work session. The cameras were approved by the council, totaling $64,295, during the Fiscal Year 2024 budget process. However, according to information shared at the work session, the total cost is actually $15,368.73 more, for a total of $79,663.73, because the original quotes did not contain all of the necessary equipment.
