As heavy storms ripped through Santa Rosa County earlier this month, the town of Jay took the brunt of the impact.

Perhaps no one was impacted more than the farmers.

Eglin Air Force Base received the honor of Military Conservation Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service May 15 at a ceremony held at the Air Force Armament Museum.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an “above-normal” hurricane season. On May 23, NOAA announced they are forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total storms (winds of 39 mph or higher) with eight to 13 becoming hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher). Additionally, the organization says four to seven of those hurricanes could be classified as “major,” meaning category 3, 4 or 5 (with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Santa Rosa County native Amanda Cook will soon be playing on the biggest stage of her life.

Cook announced recently that her band, aptly named the Amanda Cook Band, will be performing at the Grand Ole Opry on July 7.

A 31 year old Milton woman was killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Wednesday morning. Florida Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at mile marker 29 westbound. The vehicle ran off the road and overturned.
