County to vote on beach re-nourishment project
The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners will vote at its Thursday, June 13 meeting on a contractor for the Navarre Beach re-nourishment project.
In 2023, the commission approved a full beach re-nourishment project, which was estimated to involve placing 580,000 cubic yards of sand on Navarre Beach. As part of Thursday’s consent agenda, it will consider awarding a contract for the project to Manson Construction Co. in the amount of $11,491,463.

Jay Library closes for community center renovation
The Jay Library will be closed beginning Monday, June 17, due to the Linda Carden Community Center renovation. The Summer Reading program will continue to take place at Jay City Hall. All other programs are cancelled until further notice.

Atlanta tourists top list for out-of-state visits to our area so far this year, says Tourism council
With summer upon us, more and more tourists are flocking to Navarre Beach and the rest of Santa Rosa County to soak up the sun’s rays and find new adventures. At a recent meeting of the Tourism Development Council (TDC), Tourism Development Office (TDO) Director Julie White noted a sharp increase in visitors from one of the largest cities in the south, thanks in large part to the county’s marketing efforts.

Eglin’s Santa Rosa Island trespassing fines increase
Fines for trespassing violations at the Santa Rosa Island Closed Test Area increased May 31, 2024. The trespassing fine is a minimum of $250 for a first-time offense. The previous fine was $65.

A crosswalk at the intersection of Byrom and Magnolia Streets in Milton will be named for Myson McKenney, a 14-year-old who lost his life at the intersection last year.
