In 2006, Staff Sergeant Daniel Gilyeat’s life changed in the blink of an eye.

Gilyeat was serving his second tour in Iraq, working to find and disarm bombs, when he was caught in the blast of an explosion. Ultimately, he lost his left leg, but it still could’ve been much worse. After the explosion, while in transport by helicopter, Gilyeat died and was revived two times.

After 50 years, the Berrydale Volunteer Fire Department in Jay is planning for a new building.
