Local AAU team buying into roles and thriving
Wynton Holmes started working with his current Northwest Florida Warriors AAU team when the players on it were in second grade.
Now a group of seventh graders, the Warriors continue to thrive and that’s exactly what Holmes loves to see.

Football runs in family for McAllister
Football has been a family affair for Milton’s Cam McAllister. He has a lot of relatives who played the game. It was only natural that the Panther standout played as well.
“Football pretty much runs in the family,” McAllister said. “My dad played and all of my uncles played football and my cousin just recently committed to the Texas Longhorns.”

Pace and Jay set to begin regional tourney play
It’s playoff time for four area teams.
Pace’s softball and baseball teams are both hoping to make a run at a 6A state championship while the Jay Royals are hoping to repeat as 1A state champs in softball. Jay’s baseball team is also in the tournament.

Jeffcoat named coach of the year in Gulf South Conference
The University of West Florida baseball team saw two of its own recognized this week.
Mike Jeffcoat has been named the coach of the year in the Gulf South Conference and Dalton Neuschwander has been tabbed the Pitcher of the Year for the conference.

Jay has that winning feeling after another district softball title
More than 10 minutes had passed since Jay’s softball team capped off a dominant District 1-1A tournament victory with a celebration that had no shortage of smiles.
Players stood on the infield dirt with family and friends, talking and taking pictures, unable to hide the joy of the moment on a Thursday evening in Bratt.

From three runs down to a three-peat for Pace’s baseball team
Tate was kicking dirt on Pace late Thursday night. The burial of the Patriots’ dreams of a third consecutive District 1-6A championship seemed to be nearing completion.
A 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, three outs from a title, it sure did appear as it if would be enough for the Aggies.

Pace three-peats as district softball champions
Jayden Heavener struck out the last three batters she faced in Wednesday’s District 1-6A softball final against Navarre. A mild celebration followed.
The Patriots smiled. They posed for photos. They high fived and hugged. They huddled up and raised the trophy into the air, savoring the thrill that comes with winning a championship.

Despite end to season, Milton softball team feeling positive about future
Gracie Bonds fired one final pitch across the plate in a game against Tate on the final Friday of April in Cantonment. The batter swung and missed. Game over.
In what has been a difficult year for the Panther softball team, Milton played its best the final week of the regular season, winning consecutive games to push its win total to six.

Durden signs free agent deal with Dallas Cowboys
David Durden is headed to the NFL.
The University of West Florida wide receiver signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys on April 29.
