Milton’s boys basketball team hasn’t backed down from a challenge all season. Playing a stacked schedule, the Panthers’ latest test was welcomed right before the end of 2024 at the King of the Sun Tournament in Ocala.

Several Santa Rosa County teams are ranked among the top eight in the first set of the FSHAA regional basketball rankings.


Milton’s girls basketball team is seventh in Region 1-6A while the boys are eighth. Jay is ranked second in the Rural region.

The regional rankings for girls and boys soccer currently feature two Santa Rosa County teams in the top eight, with Navarre’s girls and boys teams both in that position.

Milton’s girls basketball team closed out the first half of the year on a high note.


The Panthers (10-4) rattled off eight consecutive wins between Dec. 6 and Dec. 21 and have nearly matched their win total from last season.

Former junior college athletes now competing at the NCAA level have been granted an extra year if their eligibility is set to expire after the 2024-25 season.

Milton’s girls soccer team closed out the first half of the season with as many wins as it racked up all of last year.


The Panthers finished 5-4-2 during the pre-2025 portion of its schedule and look to add to that total over the final few weeks of the regular season.

The latest FHSAA regional rankings for boys and girls soccer were released on Dec. 17.

West Florida Baptist’s Olivia Pearce is the new career record holder for blocks, setting the mark in a game against Choctaw on Dec. 21.

Central’s Kylie Goodale has earned the opportunity to play softball at the next level.


Goodale signed with Reid State on Dec. 14 during a ceremony at the school.

There’s no question 2024 was a year to remember in the north end of Santa Rosa County.

Jay won its first state baseball championship in 54 years while the Pace softball team claimed its first crown since 2007. Pace’s girls weightlifting team went back-to-back as state champs while the boys weightlifting team at Pace won a state title as well.
