It was well after 9 p.m. on a Thursday night in Baker and Jays’ baseball team was still celebrating its championship.


The players were taking photos with the trophy, savoring the thrill of going back-to-back as district champions for the first time since 2009 after beating rival Central 14-2 in six innings.

With the arena mostly cleared out late Saturday night, Pace’s boys weightlifting team was still hanging around.


Lifters were posing for photos, taking turns holding up the trophies and showing off their medals. School principal Stephen Shell even took a selfie with the team.

All the work weightlifting athletes from Santa Rosa County have put in this season reaches a culmination Saturday at the FHSAA state meet in Lakeland.
