The packed parking lot and cars lined all the way down Park Avenue were an early indication of how big of a deal Friday night was going to be in the latest chapter of the Pace and Milton rivalry.

The Panthers played host to the crosstown rival Patriots in the Battle for the Bronze Helmet.

Pace’s Hudson Trammel and Milton’s Noah Day turned in strong performances at the 3A Regional Meet last Wednesday in Ocala.

Trammel won the 100 Butterfly and took third in the 100 Backstroke while Day finished third in the 50 Freestyle and fifth in the 100 Freestyle at Butterfly at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training Center.

Several Pace and Milton athletes are moving on to the 3A regional in swimming later this week after a strong showing at last Friday’s District 1-3A meet at the UWF Natatorium in Pensacola.

Both teams had one district champion. Hudson Trammel of Pace won 100 Backstroke and Milton’s Noah Day prevailed in the 100 Freestyle.

With three minutes and nine seconds to play Friday night inside Bennett C. Russell Stadium Pace found itself on the brink of an upset win over Navarre.

The Patriots had just scored a much-needed touchdown as Nick Simmons used a 5-yard run to trim the Raider lead from nine to two.

A pair of Northwest Florida high school football heavyweights squared off at Crestview’s Jack Foster Stadium on Friday as Milton came to town to take on the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 28-0 lead and held off a comeback attempt by the Panthers to take a 49-28 win.

During the huddle near the end of its District 1-6A semifinal against Navarre last Tuesday night, Pace head coach Cody Trimm took a moment to talk with his team.

The Patriots were on their way to a three-set loss to the Raiders, but they didn’t go down without a fight in a 20-25, 8-25, 18-25 loss.

All season Milton’s volleyball team has battled teams tough, and last Monday’s District 1-6A opener against Tate was no exception.

The Panthers closed the gap several times in the opening set, getting as close as 18-15 late, but Milton could never push itself over the top and went on to fall to the Aggies as their season came to a close.
