Pace’s Ava Grace Wheaton and Sean Drummond are ranked first and second, respectively, in the girls and boys javelin heading into Friday’s 3A state meet at the University of Florida.

Wheaton recorded a throw of 119-feet-9-inches at the regional to win a championship and is hoping to win her first state title in the event.

Bryan Hoeing helped the Pensacola Blue Wahoos earn a split in their series with Biloxi. Hoeing won his second game of the year as Pensacola came away with a 4-1 win.

He threw seven scoreless innings and allowed only two hits. Hoeing struck out eight.

Six players tallied hits and Cam Collins notched the win on the mound as the Panthers won for the fifth time this season.

Once a moment she dreamed about and hoped would become reality someday, the lone player remaining from the inaugural flag football season at Pace in 2019 cherished the feeling of being a district champion with her teammates late Wednesday night on their home field.

Jay’s softball team has won its last 11 games, shutting out four consecutive opponents during the streak, including in wins over Central and Gulf Breeze last week.

The Royals rolled past Central 10-0 last Tuesday and beat Gulf Breeze 4-0 Wednesday.
