Let’s stop playing around with parks and recreation
Santa Rosa County seems ready to change how it manages parks and recreation.
Commission Chairman Colten Wright recently introduced plans to partner with the City of Gulf Breeze to study building a competition-grade aquatic facility and talks about parks and recreation as “quality of life” infrastructure investments; Commissioner Kerry Smith is negotiating a new agreement with the Emerald Coast Sports Association to ensure a successful revival of recreational sports at East Milton Park; and an economic development strategist has advised the county to investigate sports tourism opportunities.

I was listening to a podcast today while driving to my office.
I call my car my traveling university because I use that time to learn. Any business owner will tell you that it is difficult to find people that want to work for their paycheck.

For God’s Sake: God does not need us to download a Bible app to our smartphones.
“God needs you to have a Bible app on your phone,” the in-app ad states. Accompanying that statement is an illustration depicting Jesus with a look of longing.
I enjoy playing Sudoku on my smartphone so, as with most free apps, I must occasionally sit through an ad. The above ad is promoting a King James Bible app and it appears regularly.

I’ve said it about the girls when it comes to weightlifting, and the same can be said about the boys.
When it comes to this corner of Northwest Florida, the athletes here dominate the sport.

The highly anticipated review of Santa Rosa County’s Land Development Code got off to a rocky start last week – to the surprise of no one who participated in the contentious 2021 rewrite.

Star Wars ‘fans’ need to grow up or move on
Even though I’m in my mid-40s, one of my favorite entertainment escapes in life is still Star Wars. It’s something my big brother introduced me to as a very young kid and I remain just as passionate about it today.
While most Star Wars fans are great, a small portion of the fandom are sadly among the most toxic people you can meet.

The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Office is seeking public input for possible future amenities and/or projects for Navarre and the Navarre Beach areas.
There is a new poll out that you will see promoted in the next few weeks. There are only two questions – the first one being an order of importance.

It’s a start. That was my initial thought when I learned that Santa Rosa County is dipping its toes into the middle school sports game.
Starting this coming school year, the county will finally offer what we’ll call an appetizer menu of sports for junior high athletes. Cross-country, track and 3-on-3 basketball are the options those athletes will have an opportunity to compete in.

For God’s Sake: Climbing off the mount of my self-pity and pride
Recently over lunch, some friends and I were discussing social media and how online interactions are akin to what went on in the barbaric games of the ancient Roman Coliseum.
In my opinion, social media is a misnomer, it should be called unsocial media, or even anti-social media. I know that I have whined about this in the past, but social media interactions have not improved.

Middle school sports are a start; school board, county can do better
Excited social media posts rippled across Santa Rosa County last week when the school board approved adding a limited middle school sports program.
It’s about time. Our neighbors in Escambia and Okaloosa counties have offered robust middle school sports programs for years while Santa Rosa County families wonder why they don’t have the same opportunity.
