For God’s Sake: I put my trust in Christ
“He’s going home,” we both pronounced with confidence. My wife and I have been binge-watching the History Channel’s reality show “Forged in Fire.”
After watching an entire season’s worth of shows, we noticed a trend: the contestant who boasts the most in their introductory clip tends to be the first one eliminated. The moment a contestant begins his boast, we make our pronouncement. We are correct more times than not.

Five innings came and went. No score. Jay still was very much alive in its quest to repeat as state champions as it battled Branford in a 1A state semifinal last Monday in Clermont.
Then came the sixth. Branford scored two. The Royals tried to rally. They poured their heart and soul into it. But this was one of those days where the hits and the runs just were few and far between.

Summer has lost its luster
When I was younger, this was my favorite time of the year.
School was just letting out, I had the summer ahead of me to go to the pool, play outside, go to summer camp and enjoy the weather. I’m grateful to have the winter weather behind me, but summer doesn’t have the same appeal to me now as it did back then.

Congratulations class of 2023
Our high school seniors are about to celebrate a huge accomplishment in their life and dip their toe into the adult end of the life pool.
We are excited for you as you realize your whole life is ahead of you. You have barely begun to scratch the surface of what you can accomplish. The past twelve years have all been for this moment – mostly.

“God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.”
Those words of Scripture were of particular assurance for my wife and me as we made the long drive home from Indianapolis after having laid her brother to rest.

Rewind to the 2020 spring sports season. It seems like a lifetime ago in some ways because of how different the world was then in the midst of a pandemic.
The current seniors who will receive their high school diplomas this week were only freshmen at the time. Their spring seasons were cut short just a few weeks in.

We are excited for you as you realize your whole life is ahead of you. You have barely begun to scratch the surface of what you can accomplish. The past twelve years have all been for this moment – mostly. Some of you will go on to use algebraic equations and some of you won’t. Whatever you decide to do with your life over the next few years, do it well! Here is some advice we couldn’t resist passing along:

Out and About
We have an article in this week’s issue regarding bullying and the use of cell phones to bully people. I cringe when I see young children carrying around cell phones.
Last week I was looking out my window when children as young as 8 and 9 were walking down the street toward the bus stop – not looking at where they were going because they were staring at their phones.

Some stories stay with you
I have been in this industry for more than 25 years at this point, getting my first paid job at the Ball State Daily News in the summer of 1998.
Since that time, I have written thousands of stories (my best estimate is around 5,000, but that could be a little high or a little low).

For God’s Sake: His pathway leads safely to the end goal of our faith – righteousness.
A much-loved feature of the home we rent is that it is nestled among trees of various kinds.
The southern property line is bordered by aromatic pine woods whose limbs reach across the fence to commune with a robust magnolia and a towering pine.
