The Santa Rosa Island Authority is thrilled to announce that local naval aviator and retired Marine Corps Major Paul Entrekin is celebrating his 30th season as Air Boss of the Pensacola Beach Air Show this year.

Have you ever wondered who controls the schedule for all the aerial acts, mass formations, high-speed jet demonstrations and pyrotechnics at every show? Enter the Air Boss.

As the Air Boss, Entrekin has the primary responsibility for coordinating all air show operations within the demonstration area and plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, efficient and entertaining air show every year. All of this while also meeting the latest standard air show regulations.

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners will hold a workshop for proposed Land Development Code changes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 10, with a break from 11 a.m.-noon for lunch.

UPDATE: Power has been restored and all clinical operations have resumed at Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) as of 6:25 p.m. on June 29. The temperatures in the building are back to normal. While the hospital was operating on back-up power with limited air temperature management, nine patients were transferred to other facilities. The remaining patients are continuing to receive medical care and remain stable.

Pensacola’s hometown heroes will be front and center at the 2023 Pensacola Beach Air Show, hosted by the Santa Rosa Island Authority (SRIA), July 5-8, 2023. The elite U.S. Navy Blue Angels will headline all events which culminate on Saturday, July 8, with the official Air Show.

One candidate to replace retiring Milton City Manager Randy Jorgenson clearly stands head-and-shoulders above the others, at least in the mind of Councilman Mike Cusack. “If we let Scott Collins get away, we may live to regret it,” Cusack said Wednesday after councilmembers finished their sixth and final Zoom interview of city manager applicants. “If we wait until July 11, he’ll be gone.”

Anyone interested in learning more about the 2,700-acre master-planned Jubilee community proposed northeast of Pace is invited to an “informal, come-and-go” event between 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, 4315 Avalon Boulevard in Milton.

Santa Rosa County commissioner James Calkins, who is expected to seek election to a second term next year, again created controversy at last week’s commission meetings by proposing resolutions addressing hot-button political issues not related to the county’s business.

Two nonprofit organizations are pursuing Jack Wetherell’s vision when he opened the Panhandle Butterfly House in 1997 in Navarre, one the nonprofit sponsor of the program, the other founded in 2021 by a former volunteer and board president of the original Panhandle Butterfly House board.
