The Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County (DOH-Santa Rosa) is celebrating the opening of the Little Free Pantry Box to provide Santa Rosa County residents in need access to non-perishable food items at no cost.

The western portion of Adams Road in Pace is closed due to damage to a fire main. Pace Water System, Inc. is onsite making repairs.

The National Hurricane Center is closely watching a trough of low pressure in the Caribbean Sea.

The bridge on Polktown Road, just west of Country Mill Road, will be closed beginning today, Mon., Sept. 30 due to safety concerns on a settling headwall. Repairs will begin within a week, weather permitting, and are expected to take up to a month to complete. Traffic will detour to and from the north end of Polktown Road off Curt Lane.

Highway 98 in Navarre can be a traffic nightmare, and that congestion can also be a headache for first responders, who are trying to respond to emergencies.

There’s a lot of history at the West Florida Railroad Museum, and in October, a free event will give residents a chance to learn more about that history.

With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From October 1 – 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 390 shelters in 44 states. The dirt pit where three children died in 1998 is again concerning nearby residents who say the pit is encroaching on their properties.  

The Milton Christmas Parade will continue, thanks to a resident who has become synonymous with planning the event over many years.

As Hurricane Helene gets closer to moving out of the Gulf and onto land, evacuees have driven to Santa Rosa County to seek shelter from the storm.
