What can we expect in north Santa Rosa?

According to eclipse2024.org, the eclipse is a total eclipse for those in the path of totality, however, north Santa Rosa County will experience a partial eclipse with 80% magnitude (or coverage of the sun) on Monday, April 8, 2024.

The American Red Cross of North Florida is hosting a Shelter Fundamentals and Simulation event on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center, 5629 Byrom St. in Milton. Potential evacuation shelter volunteers, observers, and partners are welcome to attend by registering online.

The 2024 Santa Rosa County Farm Tour will be held Thur., May 16. The tour will showcase the diversity of agriculture production in Santa Rosa County highlighting specialty crops and beef cattle production. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the tour begins at 9 a.m., departing from the UF/IFAS West Florida Research & Education Center, 4253 Experiment Drive in Jay.

Eglin Air Force Base’s Fire and Emergency Services recently lost one of their own in a motor vehicle crash, which occurred Wednesday, March 13. Battalion Chief Matthew Becker, who served with Eglin Fire and Emergency Services for 17 years, left behind a wife, two children and countless loved ones.

Interim Milton city manager Randy Jorgenson has asked the city council to consider hiring an assistant manager.

“The city is in need of an assistant city manager,” Jorgenson told the council in their workshop meeting last Thursday night. “The workload around here right now is pretty heavy. I will put it on the agenda for consideration if it is desirable to the council.”

A Milton man died after he was struck by a sedan near the corner of Highway 87 N and Sandy Hill Lane in Milton.
