Coffee with a Cop at Mama Lattes
Building relationships one cup at a time the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office hosted Coffee with a Cop at Mama Lattes on Feb. 15.
Police officers often face distrust from the public. Captain Keith Kauffman and Sergeant Chris Cognac from Hawthorne, Calif., created Coffee with a Cop in 2011. Their goal is to restore trust between officers and the citizens they serve.

Relief still available through SBA for Florida private nonprofits hit by May 2024 tornadoes
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding eligible private nonprofit (PNP) organizations in Florida of the March 17 deadline to apply for low interest federal disaster loans to offset economic losses caused by the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes that occurred May 10, 2024.

Tobacco in parks could be banned
The Florida Department of Health and Students Working Against Tobacco, support the banning of not just cigarettes at public parks, but all tobacco use. At the county commission meeting Feb. 10, they shared why.
Santa Rosa County ordinances state park visitors must comply with no smoking at parks where signage is posted. But those signs may need to be changed to no tobacco, as local groups are advocating to have ordinance language expanded to include e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.

Santa Rosa County narrowly avoids “expensive lawsuit”
On Feb. 3 Santa Rosa County commissioners praised county attorney Tom Dannheisser for reaching a settlement agreement with Waste Pro, a waste and recycling company seeking restitution damages after a breach of contract with the county.
Dannheisser created a Memorandum of Understanding for the board to sign as a resolution of the dispute between the county and Waste Pro.

Veterans Treatment Court nonprofit receives $9K from Navarre based social club

Hurlburt Field – As the final seconds ticked away on the game clock, the crowd cheered, and teammates came off of the bench to congratulate one another.
The Hurlburt Field Air Commandos basketball team had clinched yet another win with a 76-68 win over the Eglin Eagles on Jan. 10.

Santa Rosa County 4-H Archery Team hits the mark at state competition
Santa Rosa County 4-H recently celebrated an outstanding achievement as its archery team showcased bow skills at the Florida 4-H State 3-D Archery Competition.
The Senior Team, comprised of three high school age children, netted third place in the highly competitive Florida 4-H State 3-D Archery Compound Division Competition. In the Florida 4-H State Intermediate Individual 3-D Archery Compound Division Competition, Hailey Marsh, 13, earned second place.
