Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has gone to the dogs! Or, at least, they are very excited about telling the community about them.

The law enforcement agency recently started an initiative to reach out to the community and positively engage them in what the K9 unit does. As a part of that initiative, the Sheriff’s Office has created a special set of trading cards that highlight the various K9s in the unit.

Open since 1937, the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce has been serving businesses and individuals across Santa Rosa County for decades.

With the past few years and its challenges, there has been a lot of change and adjusting that has had to take place.

Jeff Minder first discovered he had a passion for dogs when he was at Hurlburt Field, where he was a SERE trainer, teaching airmen to evade enemy canines. SERE is short for survival, evasion, resistance, and escape.

The City of Milton will unveil a historic marker honoring the legacy of the J.B. Turner School, the first public school in Santa Rosa County for African-American students. A dedication ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the intersection of Mary and West Walker streets.

It takes a strong team to win a championship. King Middle School feels like they have that with their academic team.

In its sixth year, the academic team at King Middle recently earned a bid to the national championship in Chicago, which runs from May 12 to 14 next year.

The City of Milton officially kicks of the holiday season beginning at 5 p.m. Friday with a tree-lighting ceremony, lighted boat parade, fireworks and a visit from Santa Claus.
