Ronnie Cottrell is the head coach of a college football program for the first time in his career.


And maybe that’s fitting as he’ll be coaching a first-year program in Lighthouse Christian College.

Navarre, Pace and Milton opened the boys golf season Aug. 29 at Tanglewood in Milton.

Several area cross-country teams kicked off the 2024 season Aug. 31 at the Patriot Invitational in Pace.

Quarterback Carson Baxley picked up a ball that had been fumbled away momentarily and pitched it to Jeremiah King.


Baxley was hit immediately after he tossed the ball into the hands of one of Central’s top playmakers early in the second quarter last Friday night, and King wasted no time turning the new-found life for the Jaguars’ offense into something special.

The Milton Panther football team played its home opener this past Thursday against the Pensacola Tigers.


In what was a hard-fought game, the Panthers had a few unlucky breaks late, costing them a win as the Tigers pulled out a 16-7 win on the road.

While it was a short week, the result was still the same for the Jay Royals, who dominated Freeport 34-6 in their home opener.


The game was played Thursday instead of Friday, and head coach Brian Watson was thrilled to see his team prevail.

A Friday night under stadium lights is no longer a dream for the Central Jaguars.


It became reality for the Jaguars Friday when they kicked off the varsity era of the program against JU Blacksher in Uriah, Alabama.

Nothing beats a rivalry. Especially one that features Jay and Central.


Those two schools squared off in volleyball last Thursday night, and as expected, the match lived up the hype, with all five sets needed to determine a winner.

Ronnie Cottrell is coaching football at the college level again.


Cottrell, a former recruiting coordinator at Florida State and Alabama, is the new head coach of Lighthouse Christian College, a first-year program that begins play this fall.
