Two challengers for Elizabeth Hewey’s seat faced off in a forum on July 24 at East Bay K8 School in Navarre.

The forum, organized by the Navarre Chamber of Commerce, featured district 2 Santa Rosa School Board candidates Mariya Calkins and Oscar Locklin. Incumbent Elizabeth Hewey was not at the forum.

Lane closures on Chumuckla Highway and Pace Road will begin on Monday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 31, to install cross-drains. Installation is part of a project to add turn lanes on Chumuckla Highway and Pace Road. Both lane closures will happen near the roadway intersection. Work will be performed between 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

The East Milton Elementary School Roadrunners have a new leader. Patricia “Trish” Johnson was named to the role of principal in June, replacing Nadia Colin, who left to take the school district’s public information officer position.

A 64-year-old from Milton died in a single vehicle crash on State Road 4 Sunday morning.

Three concerned individuals attended the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners meeting on July 8 to voice their concerns about a dog named Roscoe that was shot in the head by his owner on March 20.
