Karen Barber has been re-elected as the superintendent of Santa Rosa County schools. Barber received 16,710 votes, or 49% of the vote, to defeat David Godwin and Brenda Stephens. Godwin received 12,905 votes, or 38%, and Stephens received 4,328 votes or 12.75% of the vote. This story will be updated with more information.

The city of Milton will soon celebrate its history – and make it more visible to visitors – via historical photos and information placed on some of the city’s lampposts.

Despite his young age, it’s clear that 7-year-old Knox Lane Ellis touched many people in his life, and in the Santa Rosa County community.

Monday, Aug. 12 marked the beginning of the 2024-25 school year for students at Avalon Middle School. It also marked the beginning of Ryan Stokes’ tenure as principal at Avalon Middle.

Pickleball players rejoice, as there will soon be even more space to play in Milton.

The city received a $139,878 grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistant Program (FRDAP) and the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center will be undergoing renovations. As part of the work, the existing tennis and pickleball courts at the Dr. O.K. “Doc” Matthews Tennis Complex will be repaired and two stand-alone pickleball courts will be built.

The U.S. military completed its withdrawal from Air Base 201 in Agadez, Aug. 5.
