The National Weather Service in Mobile is predicting isolated severe weather conditions for our area tonight, Friday, March 14. Santa Rosa County has been placed under a MODERATE risk of severe weather through Saturday, March 15.

After a two monthlong investigation, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two county residents for child abuse and neglect. Jesse Allen Smith, 29, of Jay, is charged with cruelty toward a child, which is described as aggravated child abuse. Jordan Chase Moore, 28, of Pace, is charged with child neglect with great bodily harm. At the time of the arrests, the two were involved in a relationship.

In a show of unity and cooperation, the Santa Rosa County board of commissioners came together without objection or heated discussion to put together an 11-member Land Development Code Task Force.

At the last meeting on the issue, the public expressed their discontent telling commissioners the task force was builder heavy and citizen shy. It led to disagreements between commissioners as to how the committee should be built and the number of members on the task force.

February 25, 2025
Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office executed a court order at Gulf Coast Guns in Milton to seize assets or “collateral” due on a “defaulted” loan. Photos and video were shown of deputies emptying the store of inventory. But throughout the day, supporters voiced their support for the store on social media. The Sheriff’s Office said they were following the orders of the court and had no other involvement in the civil case.

Just before noon Tuesday, Feb. 25, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office executed a court order at Gulf Coast Guns in Milton. The order, which was issued by a Judge in Santa Rosa County, dealt with the seizing of items from the gun store.
February 19, 2025
The Milton City Council voted 5-3 in favor of dismissing the lawsuit against Mayor Heather Lindsay for violating the Freedom of Information Act.

The vote comes one day after the shade meeting between the city council and City Attorney Alex Andrade. The council had requested to have a closed meeting to discuss the ongoing lawsuit with Lindsay.
