The Santa Rosa School District voted to promote three individuals to new leadership positions during Monday night’s meeting, which also opens up two principal positions for the 2024-2025 school year.

Warren Stevens has been named the district’s new director of continuous improvement; Mandy King, the coordinator of literacy; and Nadia Colin, public information and family/community outreach office.

Rosemont, Illinois — On the weekend of Saturday, May 11, Martin Luther King Middle School joined 159 of the top middle school quiz bowl teams at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago for the 2024 Middle School National Championship Tournament.

Over 650 students from all across the state of Florida competed April 20.  The competition featured multiple rounds and was about 15 hours in total.  Collectively, Santa Rosa County students at the competition brought home lots of hardware, including several students who earned top three finishes in categories such as duo interpretation, congressional debate. Oral interpretation, and varsity public forum debate.

Elementary students from 16 schools across Santa Rosa County gathered at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton on April 26 for “Battle of the Books.” Each school was represented by a team of five students. 

An issue with a double-sided milk cooler caused Bagdad Elementary to score “unsatisfactory” on two recent inspections by the Department of Health in Santa Rosa.

But as part of the Hope Squad at Milton High, Longmire has a chance to help others who are on the road he once traveled on.

In recent years, the state of Florida has pushed for greater educational opportunities for trade and vocational training. On April 16 and 17, students from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties were given the opportunity to go to Milton to take part in Northwest Florida Construction Career Days.

Parents and volunteers play a pivotal role at schools. They help alleviate the needs of teachers by chaperoning, buying classroom supplies, and assisting faculty with a litany of miscellaneous tasks such as painting, arranging bulletin boards and setting up events.

Teachers, students and administrators from schools across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties gathered in Pensacola to hand out awards for Career and Technical Education programs within each school district.

The University of West Florida has been recognized with a 2024-2025 Top Ten Military Friendly® School designation in the large public category. In the annual rankings released on March 27, 2024, UWF ranked No. 5 and was the only Florida State University System institution to earn recognition from Military Friendly® in the large public Top Ten category.
