Panthers have no answer for Navarre

For one quarter last Friday night, there was hope. Hope that Milton would pull off an upset of Navarre. Hope that the Panthers would put an end to a three-game losing streak.

They were tied with the Raiders at 7-7 after one quarter and trailed just 10-7 with a little over four minutes left until halftime.

Pace’s first veterinarian retires after 32 years

Milton Realtor Pam White bought her first dog, Max, a golden retriever, in 1990, the same year veterinary Dr. Michael Mongue opened his practice in Pace.
“He was my first veterinarian and the only veterinarian I’ve used,” White said Thursday, Sept. 28, at a reception celebrating Mongue’s retirement. After Max came Thunder, Tucker, Buddy and Maggie. Why did White remain so loyal?
“He’s the only person I know that gets down on the floor and plays with every dog that comes in here,” she said. “We’re certainly going to miss him.”

In a rare event, law enforcement raided a local newsroom in Marion, Kansas, carrying out equipment, computers, cell phones and files. They also raided the publisher’s and the owner’s home.

Apparently, the newspaper received a tip about a local restaurant owner’s drunk driving conviction. The paper chose not to publish any of the information.

Alyssa Clark wasn’t about to let a Crestview player get an easy two points off an uncontested layup in a game earlier this summer.

A track athlete as well as a basketball player, the junior for Pace kicked her speed into another gear and took off after her before blocking the shot.

Jim Waters went on his first mission trip in 1985. He was a sophomore at Milton High School, and he traveled with a group from First Baptist Church to serve the people of New Orleans.

This week, he’s leading about two dozen teens from Friendship Baptist Church on a mission to the city; he’s led more than 20 missions to “the Big Easy” over the years.

Summer has lost its luster

When I was younger, this was my favorite time of the year.

School was just letting out, I had the summer ahead of me to go to the pool, play outside, go to summer camp and enjoy the weather. I’m grateful to have the winter weather behind me, but summer doesn’t have the same appeal to me now as it did back then.
