Avery McBride had big shoes to fill last season in flag football at Pace. She was, after all, replacing Amaya Pablo, one of the best all-time in the sport at the high school level, throwing for over 16,000 yards in four years.

Milton’s volleyball team didn’t give up when it trailed two sets to none in a road match against Navarre on Thursday night.

It would have been easy to do it. The Panthers lost 25-17 in the first set but had a 20-8 lead in the second set before the Raiders rallied to steal a 26-24 win.

The Florida High School Athletic Association regional rankings look a little different this year.

Instead of the rankings being broken down by region each week on the FHSAA site, MaxPreps just lists the overall state rankings for each classification.

Pace, Milton, Jay and Central all play at home this week, with the Royals being the lone unbeaten team. Here’s a closer look at this week’s matchups.

Riding an eleven-game win streak, Jay’s volleyball team traveled up Highway 89 to take on rival Central last Tuesday and won with a sweep.

Jay, Central and Pace all placed in the top 10 at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament at A.C. Read in Pensacola on Tuesday. Navarre and Milton also competed in the tourney.

Monday night matches are never easy. But for Central’s volleyball team, playing right out of the gate after the weekend was tough for other reasons.

“Our two setters and libero were at an FFA event all day and to drive back from Marianna. The teachers and parents helped out in making sure the kids made it here,” head coach Mark Gough said.

Jay’s volleyball team is still No. 1 in Rural Region 1 and is now the top team in the state as well.

The Patriots took third overall while the Raiders were sixth. Jay’s Presley Hawthorne competed as an individual and shot an 84 to finish 13th overall. She was one of only two 1A golfers to place in the top 15.

It was almost deafening inside the Beniah Gymnasium as L.E.A.D. Academy’s volleyball took the floor for a match during the school day.

Children cheered. One teacher ran around the gym encouraging the students to do the Wave.
