You would think the feeling of winning state championships might age a bit, perhaps get a little too old.


But inside the RP Funding Center Wednesday afternoon in Lakeland at the FHSAA 3A state meet, the joy for the athletes on the Pace Patriot girls weightlifting team is still something to admire.

In case you haven’t heard, the FHSAA state girls weightlifting meets are this week at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

Mateo Robinson has the ability to pour in points on any given night.


And earlier this month, the Milton Panther senior reached the 1,000-point mark in a district tournament game against Crestview.

Central boys basketball standout Carson Baxley hit the 1,000-point milestone of his career last month in a game against rival Jay.


A leader on both sides of the ball, the humble Baxley takes individual accolades in stride.

Aubreigh Nelson and Presley Hawthorne were asked if they planned to reach the 1,000-point mark on the same night.


“We did,” Nelson said with a laugh.

Bryse Burkett is only an eighth grader but she’s already reached the 1,000-point milestone.


The L.E.A.D. Academy star hit the achievement in the Lions’ 63-16 District 1-1A tournament win over St. John Paul II on Feb. 3.

Milton’s boys basketball team is headed to the regional tournament for the third year in a row.


The Panthers host Buchholz Saturday night in the opening round of the Region 1-6A tourney.

Postseason girls basketball gets underway this weekend, and a handful of area teams will be in action.

Playing against Mandarin in Jacksonville, the Patriots didn’t let the long trip affect them, beating the Mustangs 1-0 to advance to the Sweet 16.
