Mayor worries riverfront project could push residents from their homes
Not too nice. That was Mayor Heather Lindsay’s plea to staff preparing to advertise a request for proposals to develop city-owned property along the Blackwater River.
“My fear is that this will attract the kind of investor who wants to create a glamorous development for very wealthy individuals to have riverfront property,” Lindsay said at the city council’s July 3 executive committee meeting.
This graphic, oriented with north to the left of the image, shows how the redeveloped waterfront might look along Quinn Bayou (the diagonal inlet starting at the middle left of the image) and the Blackwater River, including a new marina and banquet hall at the end of Quinn Street, a park area and riverwalk, residential and mixed-use units and a hotel.
