Pace softball players ran to the outfield, cheering, smiling and savoring every moment of being crowned District 1-6A champions once again.
They defeated Navarre 5-1 Thursday to claim the title, beating the Raiders on the strength of three home runs, a brilliant pitching effort by Hannah DeMarcus and a defense that stands tall in big moments.

“We are just out here playing the game of baseball, having fun,” Pires said.

The senior standout is hitting over .500 and has played a key role for the Jaguars in their run to the regional tournament.

Jay, Pace and Milton wrapped up their regular seasons in softball this past week and are in good shape to make the regional tournament heading into district tourney play.
The Royals and Patriots are atop their respective regions, with Jay No. 1 in Rural Region 1 as well as the state. Reigning state champion Pace is ranked first in Region 1-6A and second in the state while Milton is sixth in Region 1-5A.

Former Pace softball star Jayden Heavener is in the running for National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Freshman of the Year.
Heavener is one of two LSU players on the list, which features 25 players. Teammate Tori Edwards is the other.
