The bye could not have come at a better time for Pace’s football team.

The Patriots (2-2) are coming off a 37-29 win over Wakulla on Sept. 11, snapping a two-game losing streak, and are set to play their first District 1-5A next Friday night against Crestview (0-4) at Mickey Lindsey Field.

Jay remains the top team in the Rural Region 1 volleyball rankings. Central is fourth this week.

It was another big day of running for Santa Rosa County teams as athletes took part in the Gulf Coast Stampede on Saturday at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola.
There were more than 150 runners on the girls side and more than 250 in the boys race on a hot and humid morning.

High school golfers in Santa Rosa County got their first big test of the season on Monday, playing in the Byron Nathan Classic at Stonebrook.

Golfers played 18 holes for the first time this season in live competition, battling not only the course but also the hot and humid conditions enveloping the day here in Pace.

A planned ice rink in Pace could break a cycle that has kept hockey stuck in limbo around Northwest Florida for years: too little ice to grow, and too small to draw the attention needed to get more.

Time to look back at week four of the high school football season.

Pace bounced back this past Friday while Navarre and Milton both lost their district openers.

The Pace Patriots turned things around Friday night with a 37-29 win over the Wakulla Eagles at Mickey Lindsey Field.

Following their 51-13 victory over Navarre last week, the Milton Panthers football team (1-2) had high expectations heading into their first district matchup against Fort Walton Beach (1-2).

That was until, as Milton head coach Ronnie Douglas put it, they got “hit in the mouth.” The final score was 28-0 in favor of the Vikings, who hosted the Sept. 11 game.

Thunder could be heard off in the distance on an overcast and humid afternoon at Stonebrook.

But Pace, Navarre and Milton were able to play their golf match on Thursday despite the threat of bad weather in Pace.
