The Jay football team came into this season with high expectations, and to this point, it has met them with flying colors.

Jay and Central entered Tuesday night’s volleyball match in vastly different head spaces, with the Royals coming off five straight sweeps and the Jaguars looking to bounce back after a tough loss to West Florida Baptist.

Jay’s volleyball team is leading the way in the FHSAA Rural Region 1 rankings.

The Royals are ahead of area rivals Baker and Central.

It wasn’t long ago that Central didn’t have a football field or a team.

Head coach Joe Surratt remembers it well.

The first cross-country meet of September took place on a hot and humid Saturday morning at Sims Middle School in Pace.

But area runners were ready for the challenge.

Division I is still fun for the University of West Florida football team.

The Argos beat a nationally ranked opponent for the second week in a row, topping No. 24 Central Arkansas 42-14 Saturday night on the road in their second game as a D-I team.

In Pace Friday Night, the stands were packed as Pace took on Choctaw on the newly named Mickey Lindsey Field. The Patriots fell 21-14 to the Indians in their non-district showdown.

Before the game, the Pace community held a ceremony to name the field in honor of the Patriots’ longtime coach.
