As much pressure as Pace faced against Tate Friday night, the defense of the Aggies never letting up on the intensity level, the Patriots were right there on the cusp of a big win on the road. It was a five-point game with 20 seconds to play after a layup by Jordynn D’amico, but the Aggies answered with a 3-pointer and sealed the deal on a 46-38 victory.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Pace girls soccer team has secured a win over Navarre. The two teams tied the last time they played in November, battling to a 1-1 tie, but the Patriots used a couple of second-half goals to seal the deal on a 2-1 win this time around.

With the final score in the books after 80 chilly minutes of soccer last Friday night, the Pace Patriots earning a 6-0 win over the Milton Panthers at home, the focus shifted to a special moment on the field. Most of the Pace and Milton players know each other.

The most recent regional rankings are out and several area teams are in contention for playoff spots. In 6A, the top eight teams will make the postseason, including the four district champions in the region. In 1A, the top four teams earn spots to the regional.

Teagan Skipworth was all smiles as she celebrated with her teammates late Thursday night, the Patriots jumping around, savoring the thrill of a huge District 1-6A win over rival Navarre on the road. A year ago in this gym, the Patriots lost to the Raiders in the district final.

Paige Phillips has long been a leader of the Milton girls soccer team. She’s also one of the area’s top scoring threats, including putting in five goals in a 9-0 win over Pine Forest last Tuesday night. That was a bright spot in what has been a challenging season, and yet, even in tough moments, Paige and her teammates, especially the seniors, have remained focused and positive.
