With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From October 1 – 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 390 shelters in 44 states. Tallahassee – Rescue and recovery efforts were underway Friday morning in North Florida’s Big Bend region and other areas of the state after the Category 4 Hurricane Helene made landfall Thursday night in Taylor County.

The National Hurricane Center said that at 10:20 p.m. CT, Hurricane Helene made landfall as a category four hurricane in Florida’s Big Bend region.

Hurricane Helene is nearing landfall in Florida’s big bend area as a category three storm. The 4 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center notes that Helene is likely to make landfall as a category four hurricane.

The city of Milton announced that all activities at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center & Sportsplex, including youth sports, are canceled after 3 p.m. on Thursday.
