A fiery crash resulted in one death and several injuries on Interstate 10 Thursday afternoon on the Escambia Bay Bridge.

Barring a last-minute candidate by noon on Friday, the superintendent race in Santa Rosa County will be open to all voters, as a write-in candidate has withdrawn.

Mayor Heather Lindsay was back for Tuesday’s Milton City Council meeting, her first in months after she was out on FMLA leave, and it led to some tense moments. Lindsay is currently being sued by the city for not turning over public records.

The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners will vote at its Thursday, June 13 meeting on a contractor for the Navarre Beach re-nourishment project.

In 2023, the commission approved a full beach re-nourishment project, which was estimated to involve placing 580,000 cubic yards of sand on Navarre Beach. As part of Thursday’s consent agenda, it will consider awarding a contract for the project to Manson Construction Co. in the amount of $11,491,463.

At a recent meeting of the Tourism Development Council (TDC), Tourism Development Office (TDO) Director Julie White noted a sharp increase in visitors from one of the largest cities in the south, thanks in large part to the county’s marketing efforts.
