The Milton Historic Cemetery is almost two centuries old with the oldest burial site dating back to a young girl in 1837. Today the cemetery has been well kept but Cemetery Manager Christie Haarmann has plans for improvements after receiving a jumbo-sized check at the Milton City Council Meeting on Nov. 14.

On Nov. 14 two county commissioners said their farewells but not goodbye. People from the public and remaining county commissioners spoke to them leaving their positions with some wishing them well, and some happy to see them go.

Four months after Lee Devine’s retirement as Milton Fire Department Captain, the vacancy has been officially filled.

Fire Chief John Reble attended the Milton City Council meeting on Nov. 12 and announced their choice for the captain position as Steven Maddox. Reble officially promoted Maddox from lieutenant to captain with a swearing-in ceremony that was followed by Maddox’s pinning with the new insignia of his rank.

NAS Pensacola recently held a change of command ceremony for the base commander.

Commanding Officer Capt. Terrence ‘Village’ Shashaty handed over the reins to incoming NAS Pensacola Commanding Officer Capt. Chandra ‘Mamasan’ Newman on Friday, Nov. 15.

Santa Rosa Sheriff Bob Johnson brought a message to the forefront today at a news conference following two separate murder-suicides on Nov. 5.

“For the love of God, please call if you are in any kind of situation where you feel you need help with domestic violence,” Johnson said.

An employee of Santa Rosa County District Schools has resigned from their position after an investigation found that the employee had engaged in “financial improprieties.” In a statement to Santa Rosa Press Gazette, the school district said the resignation came after the employee, later identified as Kelly Short (Allen), was informed of action that would be taken against her employment both immediately and through recommendation of the school board at their next regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 19, 2024.

On Nov. 5 the citizens of Santa Rosa County voted no to the one cent sales tax. Now the county will have to find new funding opportunities for improvements to county roads, what was believed to be a top issue among voters when the penny sales tax was proposed.
