Florida Sen. Doug Broxson, recently appointed Senate Appropriations Committee chairman, once lived in Milton. City officials hope that connection will work in their favor during the coming budget process.
Milton to place marker remembering Native American victim of ‘Lumberton Incident’
The City of Milton will unveil a historical marker at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Jernigan’s Landing remembering the Lumberton Incident, the violent murder in 1837 of a Creek man by settlers in what is now Milton.
School Resource Officer arrested on lewd and lascivious charge
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deputy David Daniels Tuesday, Jan. 24, on a felony lewd and lascivious charge.
On Monday, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was informed that a report of misconduct had been made against Daniels to the Department of Children and Families. Immediately after receiving the report, the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes detectives began to investigate the reported incident.
Severe storms likely overnight Tuesday, Jan. 24
The National Weather Service in Mobile is predicting severe weather conditions in the overnight hours of Tuesday night for our area. Santa Rosa County has been placed under an enhanced risk for severe weather.
Main threats include Tornadoes (a strong (EF2+) tornado is possible) and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, the line of storms will move east of I-65 during the overnight hours after midnight and impact the western Florida Panhandle during this time.
FDEP fines Milton $50,000 for sewage spills
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has ordered the City of Milton to pay a $50,000 fine for wastewater incidents dating back to September 2020.
Council meeting cancelled
The Milton City Council committee of the whole meeting scheduled tonight is cancelled because not enough councilmembers are able to attend.
Instructor pilot, student eject from T-6B near Foley
The Navy is investigating what caused an instructor pilot and student aviator to crash in a remote area near Foley, Alabama, the morning of Jan. 17.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. Jan. 17, a Navy instructor pilot and a student aviator were flying a T-6B Texan II aircraft assigned to Training Air Wing 5 in the vicinity of Barin Naval Outlying Field near Foley.
Gaetz announces nominees for military academies

Milton man found guilty of child molestation
A Milton man will spend 25 years to life in prison after being found guilty of lewd or lascivious molestation on a victim less than 12 years of age.
On Jan. 13, 2023, Antonio Jay White, Milton, was found guilty of lewd or lascivious molestation (victim less than 12 years of age) by a Santa Rosa County jury.
New courthouse opens for business
Finally! More than 20 years in the making, the new Santa Rosa County Courthouse began serving the First Judicial District of Florida and county courts today, Jan. 17.
