The Milton City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday to discuss proposed terms of a contract to hire former City Manager Randy Jorgenson, who retired from the city in September, as a consultant.

A Milton man is counting more than just his blessings after he won a grand prize from the Florida lottery. Bernard Waters, 63, claimed the $5 million top prize from the $20 Monopoly Doubler Scratch Off game this month. According to the Florida lottery, Waters chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $3,994,698.

Milton has until March 1 to convince two federal agencies that the city’s wastewater treatment project is still viable. If the city fails to meet any of four demands, it could lose two grants totaling almost $9 million.

The Milton City Council voted 5-2 at a special meeting Thursday to hire Randy Jorgenson to be the interim city manager. Jorgenson retired from the city manager position in September after serving five years in the position.

Alfred D. “Al” Brewton was a dedicated advocate for residents of Milton, a fixture at meetings of the city council and its advisory boards for years. On Thursday, the city unveiled a sign naming the council chambers in his honor.
