Senior Airman Gage Gardner’s first day of Honor Guard training began with a bang!

The Airman, unaccustomed to a Crestview morning commute due to 96th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron shift work, misjudged a stop on his way to training and his 20-year-old Suburban bumped a car in front of him at the worst possible time for an accident.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking Florida residents and visitors to report all sightings of wild turkeys between now and Aug. 31. This includes hens, poults (newly hatched wild turkeys) and gobblers.

The Milton Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance on June 1, 2025. The anonymously placed 911 call stated that a male identified as Herbert Dillard was being physically aggressive to his spouse.

All lanes of Highway 90 at the Glover Lane are blocked due to an accident involving a semi truck. The road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Leadership Santa Rosa (LSR) Class 38 took a deep dive into the area’s rich cultural and economic past during its annual History Day on May 15, 2025. The day-long event offered participants an immersive experience in the stories, landmarks, and legacies that shaped Santa Rosa County into what it is today.

The Milton Police Department has arrested 22-year-old Mohamed Bakayoko in connection with a large-scale fraud investigation that resulted in the theft of $852,983.06 from the Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court & Comptroller. Bakayoko has been charged with grand theft, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in state prison.

Today, May 27, the University of West Florida Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Manny Diaz Jr. as interim president, pending the Florida Board of Governors’ approval. Diaz, who currently serves as commissioner of the Florida Department of Education, will begin his new role on July 14, 2025, following the resignation of Dr. Martha Saunders.
