Saving animal lives with kennel sponsorships

| Marlo Scafe
Santa Rosa Animal Services is launching its third annual kennel sponsorship. The sponsorships raise funds for outsourced medical care.

The funds will also go toward foster support, microchip and rabies clinics, spay/neuter programs, and community outreach. All of it is incorporated into their Partners for Pets program that they utilize for medical cases.

“Right now, we don’t have a vet, so it’s extremely helpful when we have to outsource for injuries,” Rescue Coordinator Tara DeAguilera said. “If we have an animal hit by a car, a dog or cat that needs an amputation, unknown medical illness, we have to send them out to the vet.”

There are three levels of kennel sponsorships for cats, and three levels for dogs. They all include a sign that stays on the kennel for the entire year.

“Kennel sponsorships play a vital role in supporting the most medically needy animals in our care, and we have had amazing participation from the public last year,” said Randy Lambert, Animal Services Chief. “We really look forward to seeing how this year’s kennel sponsors truly make a difference in the lives of these animals, and their support is invaluable.”

DeAguilera said kennel signage can be in honor of a pet, person or business. They are open to all signage requests so long as they are appropriate.

All funds go directly toward animals in their care, and to further their program because they have a no-kill status which is 90% or above the save rate. DeAguilera said they want to continue that mission and are currently hiring a veterinarian who will be vital to continue the level of care they want to provide for the animals.

Santa Rosa County Animal Services’ mission is to build a society where every animal is treated with compassion. They provide humane shelter and care for the approximately 3,500 lost, displaced, and victimized animals who enter their doors every year.
