Central grad Trent Moye reaches scoring milestone in final game
He scored 16 points against Cumberlands on March 15 in the second round of the NAIA tournament and finishes his collegiate career with 1,002 points.
Moye and the Rams wrap up the year with a 22-8 record.
For Moye, who has been a regular in the starting lineup the last two years and one of the Rams’ top scoring threats, said it’s an honor to hit 1,000 points as a college athlete.
“It feels great to be able to score 1,000 in high school and college,” Moye said. “And I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support from my coaches and teammates.”
Moye started every game this season and averaged 12.2 points per outing while knocking down 45 3-pointers. He dished out 75 assists and also came up with 27 steals. He scored a season-high 30 in a game against Tennessee Southern in December. That total also matched his career high.
Moye said he’s always loved basketball and enjoyed the chance to play close to home throughout his collegiate career.
Each year of his career he made strides. Moye averaged just 3.0 points per game as a freshman but pushed his average to 14.1 per game as a sophomore. He’s averaged more than 12 points per game in each of his final three seasons.
Moye finishes his career with a scoring average of 10.0 and knocked down 155 3-pointers. He also racked up 180 assists and 68 steals.
He can’t thank those in his corner enough for their support.
“They (my coaches and teammates) believed in me throughout my whole career and I wouldn’t be able to do it without them,” Moye said. “They gave me confidence in my abilities and it’s a great honor to be able to have the (1,000-point) milestone).”
