Early voting is underway in Santa Rosa County and will continue until Nov. 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Below are Joel Rudman’s answers to our questionnaire:
SRPG: What are some things the state legislature can do to address the issue in the next term?
I would like the state to allow insurers to quote rates based on exact GPS location. We have the capability to determine risk down to the absolute smallest level. I want to be sure that folks who live in a modest house in Milton are not subsidizing the insurance of beachfront owners whose house is teetering on sand.
SRPG: What are your thoughts on Navarre’s potential incorporation, and would you help usher a bill in support of incorporation through the legislature?
As the first representative from Navarre and the only candidate who lives in Navarre, I gave the incorporation folks one shot at this, and they recently lost their straw vote. This issue is over.
SRPG: What needs to be done to maintain Florida’s resiliency in the coming years?
Entice more major insurances to come back to Florida. The reforms we passed in 2022 were a good start. We need more major players in the market. Too many people have policies through small insurers who rely on reinsurance, which is extremely expensive.
SRPG: What are some infrastructure projects needed in District 3 and how can you address these needs at the state level?
I am proud to have started the discussion to solve the bloody 98 issue. For the first time in history, we have Eglin Air Force Base agreeing that we have a problem. We need to keep pushing Eglin. There is a solution on the table. We just need their consent.
SRPG: What got you interested in running for political office this year?
I originally ran to protect the guaranteed freedoms and liberties of all Floridians. But the people who elected me told me my work is not done. Our freedoms are still at risk. It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
