Jay and Central warmed up on the court as music played ahead of a highly anticipated volleyball match between two rivals Thursday night. The potential excitement of the evening soon fizzled out as the second official never showed up, forcing the cancelation of the match.
The midway point of the high school football season is here. And three big games are on the slate tonight as Milton hosts Navarre, Pace welcomes Andalusia to town and Jay travels to Chipley.
Two of the area’s best volleyball teams faced off in a match last Tuesday night as Pace took on Pensacola Catholic. It turned out to be a competitive match, as expected, before the Patriots held on for a 16-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 15-7 win.
Ashley Pickard has made her college softball decision. The senior Pace Patriot standout committed to the University of Mobile on Saturday.
The latest FHSAA regional rankings are out for volleyball. Jay is atop Rural Region 1 and is the No. 1 team in the state. Baker is fourth in the region.
Former Pace Patriot Brandon Sproat made his second career start for the New York Mets on Saturday. Though the Mets lost 3-2 to Texas, Sproat turned in another strong outing, throwing six scoreless innings.
Pace’s boys cross-country team finished third overall at the Argo Invitational Sept. 13 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. L.E.A.D Academy’s girls team took fifth overall at the meet and Jay’s girls team was also in the top 10 of the standings, placing ninth.
Jay’s volleyball team is atop Rural Region 1 in the first set of FHSAA regional rankings. The Royals are unbeaten through 10 games and are second in the state overall. Central is also in the top four in the region and 13th in the state.
Central’s football team is still looking for its first win of 2025 after falling 46-8 to Northview Friday night at home.
Jay made the trip down Highway 4 on Friday night for a football matchup against Baker. In what would turn out to be a memorable installment in the longstanding rivalry, Baker came out on top 29-20.
