New Milton council member appointed
The Milton City Council met Nov. 9 to appoint a replacement to fill the unexpired term of David Richardson, who resigned last month due to health issues. Under the requirements of the City Charter, the Council had 60 days to complete the appointment process.
Divided commission approves development of Milton school
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved a conditional use to allow the development of a school at the 6000 Block of Tanglewood Drive in Milton at a meeting Sept. 23.
Governor visits, announces $3.4 million funding to support military missions
Governor Ron DeSantis announced Sept. 15 in a Milton press conference that Santa Rosa, Escambia and Okaloosa counties will receive $3.4 million in grant funding from the Department of Economic Opportunity.
“We appreciate having great installations and a great active-duty footprint, and of course NWF is one of the strongest military communities in the nation – we understand that enriches our community and our economy,” DeSantis said at the conference.
School security mode lifted, no arrests yet in Milton shooting
District officials said schools in the vicinity of Julia Drive and Stewart Street in Milton were only in “security” mode briefly Monday morning following a shooting.
The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office responded to that area, according to a 12:19 p.m. press release. The victim was sent to a local hospital and suspects were in custody at the time of that release. Spokesman Rich Aloy said as of late Monday afternoon, no one had been charged.
Milton Riverwalk Park discussions continue
With the Board of County Commissioners and Santa Rosa Tourist Development Council behind the City of Milton’s vision, a new Milton Riverwalk Park may begin.
Man found dead in Blackwater River
Detectives with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office are currently working a death investigation. At this time, the death is believed to have been an accidental drowning.
Milton woman, children injured in Interstate 10 rollover wreck
A Milton women and three children were injured Thursday afternoon when she swerved to avoid someone who cut her off and lost control of her minivan.
The vehicle rolled several times in the median, seriously injuring two of the children. The driver and one of the other children sustained minor injuries. The accident happened at about 5 p.m. near mile marker 25, according to the Florida HIghway Patrol media release.
Milton bus driver injured in fatal wreck
A Milton woman driving an Okaloosa County School bus Wednesday was injured when an 18-year-old girl rear-ended the bus on U.S. Highway 90. The teen, who was from DeFuniak Springs, did not survive the collision.
Zoning Board gives green light to Milton school
Despite concerns from nearby residents, the Santa Rosa County Zoning Board approved a request to allow an educational institution at the 6000 Block of Tanglewood Drive in Milton.
Permit for new Milton school to come before board
The Santa Rosa County School District has requested a conditional use permit to build a school on a portion of a 130-acre parcel at the corner of Tanglewood Drive and Willard Norris Drive in Milton.
