Raising Adults: Training responsible children

| Ken Garner
Allison and Daniel Hartman have 11 children ranging in age from 3 to 25. Parenting for a quarter century, with another decade-and-a-half in front of them, Allison said the Hartmans have “kind of a different take on raising a family.” “What I’m seeing is a lot of coddling and ‘helicopter moms,’ parents who do basically anything for their kids,” she said. “Then when their kids graduate, they send them off to college and expect everything to work out.” With her church leaders’ blessing, Allison organized the “Raising Adults, Not Children” conference, to be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Woodbine Baptist Church, 4912 Woodbine Road.
Daniel and Allison Hartman are the parents of 11 children and grandparents of three. They and their kids will be among the speakers at the Raising Adults conference Feb. 3 at Woodbine Baptist Church.
