Pace woman allegedly had children in vehicle during DUI arrest

Alexis Adara Martin, 32, is charged with DUI and child neglect, a felony.

According to Martin’s arrest report, she was pulled over June 7 at 9:48 p.m. in the 4400 block of U.S. Highway 90 after allegedly crossing the solid white fog line on the right side of the roadway multiple times.

During one instance, approximately half of the vehicle crossed over the white line and traveled onto the grassy shoulder, the report states.

After stopping the vehicle, a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported detecting a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle.

“Further, I observed Alexis to have bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred, slow speech,” the deputy wrote in the report.

Martin allegedly fumbled with her wallet while retrieving her driver’s license and was asked to step out of the vehicle.

While speaking with Martin, the deputy reported detecting the odor of alcohol on her breath and observed her swaying while standing in place.

The deputy administered field sobriety exercises, which Martin allegedly failed. She was arrested at 10:17 p.m.

According to the report, two juveniles were in the vehicle during the traffic stop. One was seated in the front passenger seat and the other in the back seat.

A man was contacted to pick up the children. He told deputies he had been looking for Martin because he feared she was driving the children while impaired. He said he had spoken with Martin by phone earlier that evening.

Another witness told deputies Martin appeared intoxicated earlier in the day while at the witness’s home.

While transporting Martin to the Santa Rosa County Jail, the deputy reported becoming nauseated from the strong odor of alcohol in the patrol vehicle and rolled down the windows.

According to the report, Martin apologized and stated she was “not raised like that.”

Martin was released from the Santa Rosa County Jail on June 8.
