Dayna Hood, a teacher at Milton High School, was due for professional development training Friday morning, Jan. 16. That plan was delayed when she was called back to Milton High for a big surprise.
Hood was selected as the district teacher of the year for 2027.
In 2026, Santa Rosa County plans to continue pursuing the expansion of Chumuckla Highway (County Road 197), a major infrastructure project the county hopes can become reality in the next few years.

The intersection of West Spencer Field Road, South Spencer Field Road, and Giddens Lane will be closed beginning Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, for the construction of a roundabout. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed by early August 2026.
