Abigail Henry is only 16. And while she is younger than the average soon-to-be high school graduate, that hasn’t stopped the Milton High senior from soaring to the top of her class.

Henry is the school’s valedictorian and is proud of that accomplishment, though she admits the pressure of being a little younger than her peers hasn’t always been easy to deal with.

Out of all the volunteers at Santa Rosa County schools, three were named “outstanding” for the school year. The school district divides the awards into three categories: youth, adult and senior adult.

This year’s winners are Aidan Brewer in the youth category, Timothy Chandler in the adult category and Beth Wingate in the senior adult category.

A Pace High School graduate has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. Juliana “Jules” Bates graduated from Pace High in 2019, and she is now a junior at the University of Alabama.
Bates was a military kid and lived in places like Arizona and North Carolina, but her ties are here in Florida.

A Milton school has been helping adults finish their education for over 75 years. Santa Rosa Adult School (SRAS) and Santa Rosa High School (SRHS) work in conjunction to serve students in different ways.
SRHS is a fully functioning high school that meets during the day, and its students range anywhere from 16 to 21 years old.

The school was awarded $112,746 through the Florida Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant Program for the new electrician apprenticeship program that will kick off Jan. 20.
